When I was working on some settings in Substack today, the interface asked me to describe our target audience. Here’s what I wrote:
The general educated reader—deeply curious, artistically inclined, thoughtful, tolerant, appreciative of fine craftsmanship in written works and other works of art.
Great news! I think that describes you.
So here is some information you can use and pass along to others who might fit that description…
First, as you can see above, we’re excited to reveal our first iteration of a masthead / logo! Many thanks to Janna Sant’Ana for her skillful design work. You can see more of Ms. Sant’Ana’s work here: https://jannasantana.myportfolio.com. She does design work in both English and Portuguese, and she is available to translate English business communications into Portuguese.
Next, we’re happy to say that we have now enabled various tiers for paid subscriptions.
Alas, we are not able to offer the $4 per month subscription as we had originally hoped—Substack has set the minimum subscription at $5 per month.
So that’s what we’ll be charging for paid subscribers: $5 per month.
Remember, we will not be paywalling any content until April 15. But don’t let that stop you from signing on to support this project! In addition to a regular subscriber tier, we have a “supporter” tier, with a suggested annual subscription fee. However, you may enter a different amount on that line if you wish.
Our next update will include guidelines / instructions for submissions.
Remember, we are committed to paying a MINIMUM of $15 per published submission. If we get enough “angel subscribers” before we launch, we will be happy to start at a higher pay rate.
We are excited to launch this collaborative effort. Please encourage your friends to subscribe to our email list. This is the most important thing you can do to support us now as we get ready for our launch.
But if you want to join right away as a paid subscriber, we will not turn you down!
